I work in a real estate office, and was going to become a REALTOR… but then I noticed that although it seems the agents have great hours, it is the opposite. They work all the time. Not even kidding. There is an agent here whose client dropped her because she didn’t answer her phone (she was getting her hair cut and didn’t have her phone within reach). The dangers of taking time off work are very real too. You can lose deals and clients, and you have to arrange for someone to take your calls, clients, and handle your transactions when you are gone. It is a ton of work, and it takes a lot of time to get started. You have to have your cell phone available at all times, and you have to be available at all times. If you can handle that, then by all means go for it. There are great opportunities in real estate if you are committed!

It is hard, very uneven pay, and the hours can be very long. Weekend and nights most of the time. OR you go for weeks without ANY action, and of course that means NO pay. You only get paid when a house goes to settlement. You have to have your own office, car, accountant. No benefits, no retirement, no 401K.
However, you can chose your clients, and chose not to work, but then again you won’t get paid. SO if you are married to someone who is gainfully employed to take up the slack it can gratifying.
The average salary is $50,000 per year in good times.

real estate is NOT A JOB

it is a career.. if you don’t want to focus on real estate, either listing or helping buyers,
    work in another field.

working HARD has nothing to do with it, it is working EFFECTIVELY that works.

maybe you should consider having a small company where you find UNMET needs
    and sell people those!

    stay away from RE.

By your statement about time off this is not the career for you. Weekends are not a time off this is the very time that real estate agents are working the most. You will never have any time off as long as you are working with people and being successful.

If you are lucky then you might get a Thanksgiving and Christmas, but that depends on if you have clients that don’t celebrate those holidays.

Stress- Forget it this is stressful in that if you have walked a client through to the closing phase of a real estate transaction and for some reason they default and don’t go through with the transaction. Some (A few) have legitimate reasons where as others (A lot)don’t because the wife looked at the kitchen once again and now it no longer please her.

Stress- When after you have found a house for someone, now it is time for them to sign the sales contract now will not return your phone calls.

Stress- When you ask if there are other things you should know about the person purchasing a home. They tell you no only to find out that they have several alias as well as owe back taxes.

Then these same individuals will take you to court to get back their deposit, which you get none whatsoever.

Being a real estate agent is a people to people career. If you are not good with people, have problems relating to people with insecurities about purchasing probably the biggest investment of their live time, then perhaps you should look into another career field.

These are just a few of the things that go on in the day of a real estate agent.

I have yet to mention the professional people that you would be depending on to assist you in your daily work to make sure everything goes well.

I hope that this has been of some benefit to you, good luck.

It will all depend on the real estate agent they can work their *** more than 10 hours a day or they can even just go on vacation tour around the world and delegate their tasks to someone.

I found this website that will teach you how to do it the smart way using simple strategies.
